We’re 3 months into 2017 now and I think it’s high time I popped my head back into the world of blogging.
It’s a shame really, blogging for me has always been a great outlet, a place to stick some words, some thoughts, some stories and send them off into cyber space to fill someone else’s head for a time. It’s a very gratuitous way to share a bit of yourself.Read More »
Whenever I’m in a new country where everything is different and unknown, my senses become insatiably hungry. I want to see everything, hear everything, I want to speak to everyone and drink in their stories. Travelling has inevitably become by comfort zone. Whereas in real life I often feel constrained, anxious and uncertain, when I travel I completely surrender myself to the experience. I let it all wash over me and slip into a state of total acceptance and contentment. It’s so easy in our day to day lives to let our worlds shrink to tiny bubbles where we use the word ‘I’ far too often and stop seeing the bigger picture.Read More »
OK, you guessed it, it’s a food post again. I honestly can’t help myself. Food makes me happy! It brings people together, it warms you up, fills you up, gives you that satisfied, content, dopey smile that you only get after a truly scrummy meal. And this meal truly was scrummy. Read More »
I am currently suffering from post-brunch sadness. Yesterday I went to Mina A’Salam brunch with my favourite Dubaians, for my friend Lydia’s Birthday. I’ve been looking forward to it for weeks and now that it’s all over, I’ve got that sinking feeling, like bed time on Christmas day. Yes, yes I know, this quite sad, I’m really displaying my childish romanticism for good times. I’m not apologetic for it though, there is no way I would rather spend a Friday afternoon than with great people, stuffing our faces and abusing our livers.Read More »
Life in Dubai is surreal. In fact, surreal doesn’t even really touch on it. In this bizarre city the unusual and unexpected quickly become normal, everyday things. Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s are common place, so much so that Jake barely points them out anymore. It’s more unusual here not to have a pair of Louboutin’s or a Mont Blanc watch than it is to be seen proudly flaunting them. Everyone on Facebook is constantly talking about Kylie Jenner’s lips, but when you see ten pairs of those collagen bad boys every day, it’s hard to join the hype.
Eeek! I can’t believe I’ve been so useless and haven’t written a blog all week. Since starting my new job, my life has become a rigid routine of eat, catch bus, exercise brain to painful extent, catch bus, eat, stare at TV in comatose state for an hour, sleep. It’s not that I’m not used to the working world, I’m no stranger to long hours and aching feet, but I’ve never had a job with so much intensive learning involved before. It’s kind of floored me. And yet at the same time, it’s really rather excellent. I’ve met some seriously great people and this learning gig isn’t all that bad you know? Feeling the accomplishment of shoving one more thing into your brain and finding that it can, despite all odds, remain there is really quite satisfying. I can speak knowledgeably today about things I hadn’t even heard of two weeks ago….who knew I had it in me to sit at a desk? I surely didn’t. Speaking of my love for roaming the Earth and constantly fighting the urge to stay still, here is a little bit about the three awesome weeks I spent in Borneo last year.Read More »
I started a new job on Monday and my brain is so stuffed full of new information I physically haven’t been able to write a blog since Sunday. But today is the day! I’m making an extra effort and finally getting something down on paper…well, screen. It’s quite a small effort though, to be fair, because this is a bit of a throw back post.
